I am an ecosystem scientist interested in studying the bio-physical and environmental factors controlling the structure and functioning of aquatic ecosystems. I combine long-term monitoring data with field and experimental techniques, to describe aquatic ecosystem variability, trends, and responses to environmental change, from local to global scale. I am particularly interested in carbon and nutrient cycling and the role of organisms in controlling these processes. The ultimate goal of my research is to understand how to maintain the ecological integrity of rivers and lakes ecosystems and ensure water quality.
I obtained the National Scientific qualification as associate professor in the Italian higher education system (Ministerial Decree n. 553/2021 and 589/2021) for the disciplinary field of 05/C1 - Ecology.
Currently I am a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern Landau (RPTU) and University of Bologna.
